I grew up in Ìbàdàn, the largest indigenous city in West Africa. My dad used to tell us stories about how the city got its name and how it was formed. I think that’s how I fell in love with storytelling and developed a deep connection and appreciation for cultural heritage. I went ahead to get a Bachelor's degree in classical studies, where Greek mythology and ancient history became my Achilles’ Heel.

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, and the one who doesn't read, lives just one." –George RR Martin.
Since I was a child, I have had a deep passion for reading. It started at a very young age when I would eagerly devour any book I could get my hands on. As I grew older, my love for books only intensified, and reading became a hobby that has stayed with me throughout my life. Books have been a source of knowledge, imagination, and joy, and I continue to indulge in the pleasure of exploring different worlds and expanding my horizons through books. My parents still argue that I have bad eyesight because I used to read while walking under the sun.

I began my career in communications working for a company that owned a chain of coffee shops in Lagos. As a coffee enthusiast, I was drawn to the vibrant culture of coffee and its potential to bring people together. However, I soon realized that coffee shops were not just about serving coffee, but also about building community. I took on additional responsibilities such as organizing community events, collaborating with local artists, and implementing social media campaigns to connect with the local community and foster meaningful relationships. Through my work, I developed a passion for using communication as a tool to bring people together.

What I value most in my professional experience is vulnerability. Being vulnerable requires courage and trust. I recognize the positive impact it can have on my interactions with colleagues and team members. To actively practice authenticity in professional relationships, being genuine and transparent about my your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe that being authentic fosters trust and builds deeper connections with others, allowing for more meaningful and effective collaboration.

Previous work experience in startups and entrepreneurial ventures ignited my passion for entrepreneurship and making a positive impact on communities and economies. This experience inspired me to work in VC, where I could support early-stage startups and entrepreneurs in emerging markets by advocating for capital, mentorship, and resources to help scale their businesses and create meaningful change.

I’ll trust my life to any founder who has successfully built a business on the continent. Building a business in Africa requires navigating numerous challenges such as limited infrastructure, complex regulations, and economic volatility. However, an African founder who has successfully overcome these obstacles and built a thriving business has a deep level of resilience and determination. This resilience instills confidence in their ability to handle adversity.
