While there has been some improvement in healthcare infrastructure across the African continent, there remains very significant hurdles to the audacious targets set by the U.N. for SDG #3: Good Health and Well-Being. Core challenges, while many, include three of note here:

• Lack of ability and/or willingness to pay for care, resulting in ignoring of symptoms, exacerbating of underlying issues, and ultimately poor health outcomes.
• Convoluted pathways of care, consisting of visits to the incorrect provider and/or bouncing back and forth between various providers, resulting in poor care outcomes and/or needlessly expensive treatment.
• Poor coordination among various silos in the healthcare ecosystem, nearly all of which are still highly fragmented.

MARKET DEMAND

The average per person spending on healthcare in Africa of ~$80 per person (PPP), resulting in a Continent-wide total market of $100B. Nigeria is spending ~$71 per person, resulting in a total market of $14 - $15B.

SOLUTION

Wellahealth is on a mission to extend access to high-quality healthcare outcomes to hundreds of millions of people by solving the three interrelated problems mentioned above. The Wellahealth platform connects health insurers, patients, and care providers to an already-existing central node in the healthcare ecosystem: the pharmacy, and provides pharmacies with the technology tools to “level up” their ability to execute this role as a superconnector in the ecosystem.
